What you need to know about the new Workplace Violence Prevention Law

CalChamber’s new white paper offers what employers should know about this new law, which we hope you will find informative and useful.

Gourmet Alley Project Updates

Updates as of June 28, 2024 from the City of Gilroy.

This week, concrete work continued at each of the three trash enclosures. Additionally, crews have been working on the restorative surface work in the alley in preparation for the eventual resurfacing. Behind the scenes, crews have completed the main irrigation work and the lighting conduits. Additionally, survey work is being done on Railroad Alley to determine the location of the planned fencing. This fencing is intended to provide a limited barrier between Railroad Alley and the railroad tracks.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the Gourmet Alley Project. Your support is invaluable to us, and we are committed to delivering a project that enhances our community and downtown.

For information on where to park downtown, we’ve provided our Downtown Parking Guide with a map of available public parking lots. Exciting New Art Venues to Enhance Downtown Gilroy's Cultural Scene

This summer, Downtown Gilroy is set to welcome two additions to its cultural landscape: The Clove Art Complex and the Moya Art Gallery and Studio. These new venues bring fresh inspiration to invigorate our local art scene, boost tourism, and create exciting opportunities for our community and a destination for seekers of unique artistic experiences.

The Clove Art Complex at 7397 Monterey Rd, opening in a beloved building that most recently housed the Milias Restaurant, will be a multifaceted destination. At its heart is a café and lounge featuring the historic horseshoe shaped bar. Visitors can enjoy coffee, tea, mocktails, local wines and beers complemented by small bites. The
complex will also house a commissary kitchen, offering local food vendors the chance to produce and sell their creations in the café and retail space. Art enthusiasts and shoppers alike will appreciate the retail area showcasing locally made art, crafts, and handmade products. The space will also offer homemade and locally sourced foods, including sourdough bread, farm fresh eggs, local honey, and homemade fruit syrups. The tastefully curated gallery space will feature exhibitions run and curated by 1202 Contemporary, ensuring a fresh experience with each visit. The Clove Art Complex and 1202 Contemporary have already been an active part of community events such as the Third Friday Art Walk series, and debuting their first exhibition, “Tierra,” in May 2024.

Adding to the artistic renaissance is the second location of Moya Art Gallery and Studio at 7445 Monterey Rd. Renowned local artist Ignacio “Nacho” Moya’s expansion underscores the growing demand for art spaces in our community. Nacho has received acclaim and recognition from Global Tassels at the Annual Founders Gala in New York with the “Community Artist Excellence Award” as well as the “Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award” from Bethany Community Church, and the “Poppy Jasper International Film Festival Art Icon Award”. Moya Art Gallery and Studios on Monterey Rd in Downtown Gilroy is another facet that paints Gilroy as a growing destination for the arts and celebration of culture. This new space will have a spacious gallery, merchandise and gift shop, and multi- use spaces. From corporate Team-Building Paint Parties, Birthday and Bridal events, or advanced paint party bookings from traveling guests, the potential is endless. The Grand opening is scheduled for July 27th, 2024.

The increased foot traffic in Downtown Gilroy will benefit neighboring establishments, while the commissary kitchen and retail spaces at The Clove Art Complex offer new avenues for local producers and artisans to showcase their work. These art-centric destinations can enhance our city’s appeal to tourists and visiting groups
with a craving for unique art experiences by complementing our existing attractions, potentially extending visitors’ stays and boosting our local economy. The prominent elevation of the arts in Gilroy is important because it helps form an identity of community while establishing an emotional connection between Gilroy and its visitors.

We encourage all Chamber members to support these exciting new ventures. Consider how your business might partner with The Clove Art Complex or Moya Art Gallery and Studio. Whether through cross-promotions, supplying local products, or collaborative events, there are numerous ways to engage with and benefit from these additions to our vibrant downtown.
