Gilroy Chamber Business Focus February 2024

Data-driven decision making will transform your business

Data-driven decision making will transform your business
Google Analytics, along with the Insights feature on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram
are free tools to help you maximize your business accounts. Although the free versions
of these tools have limitations in customization, they are a gateway to learning more
about how your business is received by your intended audience. Many businesses
focus specifically on the number of visitors to a website and reactions to a social media
post but miss the opportunity to engage in a more complete assessment needed to
improve their business.

Google offers free certification in Google Analytics
Any business owner with a website should consider taking these free classes and
obtaining a certificate in Google Analytics. The certificate is also a great option for
anyone looking to pad a resume. What will you learn? Things like, analyzing data by
audience, storing data, and generating reports, interpreting items like bounce rate,
session conversion, session length, conversion rate, device usage, traffic acquisition
and much more. These data points will enable you to identify aspects that require your
attention and empower you to leverage your strengths. Google Analytics will give details
into the behavior, demographics, and interests of those interacting with your website,
while giving clarity to marketing and business strategy you may not be utilizing.

Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube insights
As a business, your first step in opening a social media account is to ensure your
presence as a business page, and not a personal account. The objective is to gain
“Followers” to your page and not to add “Friends” as you would with a normal account.
All popular social media platforms offer tools to gauge the effectiveness of your posts.
Look beyond the “Like” and “Love” reactions and you’ll learn things like the number of
accounts reached, effectiveness of your hashtags, visits to your profile, origin of your
audience, and more.

Knowledge is power; Through a business lens, the importance of knowing data
involving your company is critical if you intend to grow. Today, multiple tools can help
you discover layers of insight to then plan action steps and take advantage of these
helpful features.

Join Small Business Majority and the California Work & Family Coalition (CAWFC) to learn how our state’s Paid Family Leave (PFL) Program benefits small business owners like you and your workforce and for an overview of employer responsibilities when an employee needs to take leave.

We will discuss how employees can participate in PFL, accrue paid sick days, how they can use the leave, and what reporting/tracking is required of employers. Additionally, we will explore how PFL intersects with the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) and the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Finally, we will discuss how small business owners can apply for a $2,000 grant to help cover costs associated with employees who take leave.

The California Work & Family Coalition organizes community trainings focused on our paid leave laws, including Paid Family Leave, State Disability Insurance (SDI), wage replacement, and job protection. Through education and advocacy, the Coalition is fighting to build a statewide movement dedicated to securing the rights, resources, and accommodations that all Californians need to care for themselves and their families.
